Our Journey Through the Wilderness: Meeting God in the Pandemic

Traditionally Lent is a time of self-reflection when we disrupt the routines of our lives to metaphorically follow Jesus into the wilderness to prepare us for the Paschal mystery. It is a time when we consider our own fragility as human people, explore life’s difficult questions and our need for God.

This last year of pandemic has been like one long wilderness experience.  We are by no means out of the pandemic woods yet, but we can see a time when we might be able to share a public life together again, and breathe more easily. It is important at this moment to pause and ponder what we have learned and how we might respond as individuals and a Church in these times

To help us journey together in reflecting on our wilderness experience the Parishes by the Wall are holding a series of Lent talks with invited guest speakers.  We will explore Old Testament wilderness themes and Jesus’ time in the wilderness to consider how we might discern opportunities for growing hope, faith, hope and love in these times.

Five sessions will take place on Wednesday evenings during Lent via Zoom from 7:15 – 8:30

A Different Easter

A Different Easter

This is for many of us an Easter like none other seen in our lifetime. Our Churches are closed, we are unable to meet with one another, yet we see all around us so much kindness and support for one another at this very difficult time which helps sustain our hopes for the future.

The Easter Cross, made by our Churchwarden , Mrs Anne Galbraith is at the entrance to St Cuthbert's Church at Beltingham.

Spring is now all around us and we have the time to really notice the beauty of this season.

We know that on this Easter Day we will emerge from the darkness into light once again

This month the children learnt about Moses and the parting of the Red Sea.(Exodus 14:15) The theme of Moses was continued during the Celebration Service when the Vicar spoke about the story of Moses and the burning bush.
